Patriot Tour 2013 features retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell and retired Army Special Operations Capt. Chad Fleming. Luttrell and Fleming will deliver their unparalleled testaments of courage, integrity, patriotism and community that forge today’s elite warriors.
Marcus Luttrell, Author of Lone Survivor, and Service will be the featured speaker for the multi-city tour. He joined the Navy in March 1999 and became a combat-trained SEAL in January 2002. After serving in Baghdad, he was deployed to Afghanistan in the spring of 2005. In Lone Survivor, Luttrell’s emotionally raw account of the blown capture kill mission (Operation Redwing) and ensuing firefight with the Taliban, he honors the memories of all those who died, sharing with us the incredible bravery, courage and honor of these extraordinary warriors. He holds their lives up as examples of this guiding philosophy of the SEALs: “I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity. My Nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down, I will get back up, every time.” Luttrell was awarded the Navy Cross for combat heroism in 2006 by President George W. Bush.
Captain Chad Fleming enlisted in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger in 1999. After completing basic training and airborne school he arrived at the Ranger Regiment where he began a grueling month long selection process that has an attrition rate of 67%. His leadership skills and attitude earned him the honor graduate award for his class. He was then assigned to the elite 3rd Ranger battalion where he served with distinction.Upon successfully completing the Ranger Orientation Program he was selected to be a platoon leader with 3rd battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He has served as an officer in the most demanding jobs the Ranger Regiment has to offer. During his six deployments overseas Captain Fleming has been wounded in combat on three separate occasions (Gun shot wounds and hand grenades). He has undergone 23+ surgeries, which would later result in a trans-tibial amputation of his left leg.
He has deployed not once but twice since his injuries and both times he chose to go back to the same unstable area of Iraq that cost him his leg. He has even chosen to return as a Detachment Commander of a Special Operations Sniper/Reconnaissance unit and lead his men on combat missions in Iraq.
