I ordered this book for my brother, who has always been inspired by Marcus Luttrell and the Seals. Not only did the book come VERY fast but he was so happy when he received it. Thank you Marcus!

Having worked with the 920th Rescue Wing at Patrick AFB, FL, for ten years, I immediately bought both Lone Survivor and Service when they hit the shelves. Our unit specializes in Combat Search and Rescue and were the two-helo, pararescue team that rescued Marcus and recovered his fallen comrades. Marcus’s no-nonense description of the experiences he and his SEAL brothers endured was absolutely riviting, albeit tragic and heartbreaking. My husband and I especially appreciate his “tell it like it is” approach and he earns the respect of anyone who reads this story. There’s no sugar coating war here. Our Wing Commander is Col Jeff “Skinny” Macrander, mentioned along with Lt Col Jeff “Spanky” Peterson, the two helicopter pilots during Marcus’s daring rescue. To Mr. Lutrell, Sir, you are the epitomy of a warrior. Thank you for your service, sacrifices and for boldly telling your heroic story.

Having served my country for thirteen years in the U.S. Army, I am, and always will be a patriot. I picked up both of these books because my 18-year-old son wants to be in Spec Forces. I read these books hoping that I would find something I could offer to my son to “scare him” out of going SF. He is my first born and my only son. Having served in Operation Intrinsic Action after Desert Storm, I have seen war and my fair share. It is NOT what I want for my baby boy. That being said though, I read both “Service” and “Lone Survivor” and when I was finished, I sent both of them to my son while he was in U.S. Army BT. Although, he couldn’t read them at the time, he brought them home and read them. Although, SF is not what any mother wants for her only son, (let alone both of her sons…Mr. Luttrell and brother), after reading both of these, I would be more than honored for my son to wear an SF patch….no matter which one it is.

Also as a former HS English teacher, I highly recommend both of these books….not just as a patriot, but as an educator. Marcus tells the story like it happened. He doesn’t sugar coat anything and you find that while you are reading it, you are there with him. I would love to order the autographed books, but as I have both copies already in hardback, I think I will try to see if I can meet Marcus somewhere along the way and have him autograph the copies I already have…and if not, then maybe my family will know what to get me for my birthday, Mother’s day, Christmas, whatever.

Mr. Luttrell, you sir, are the epitome of leadership, duty, respect, selfless-service, honesty, integrity, personal courage, patriotism, and valor. If you haven’t read this book, it is a MUST read.
